Loan Analysis Request

Individualized Education for You!

We are suspending this feature for the now. COVID related activities have disrupted our ability to provide timely responses. We are devoting more of our time to patient care, and any remaining free time is preferentially going to our families. Be safe.

Doctored Money has been educating physician borrowers on debt management and PSLF for over 5 years, both in-person and online. We have volunteered our own time and money to help thousands of borrowers. We are also very pleased to report that demand for this help continues to increase but at the same time is now outpacing our time and resources.  As such, we are piloting a new mechanism to provide more efficient ‘on-on-one’ consultations to give detailed individualized education on PSLF and student loans.

We have created a form-based application to pre-screen borrowers for a comprehensive loan/PSLF analysis. To be considered, you must provide the information requested in the form. This will dramatically cut down on the current back-and-forth required to obtain sufficient information to give accurate advice.

Depending on demand, we cannot guarantee we’ll select your application for an analysis, nor do we know how long it may take to get back to you. You will not receive any “rejection”, as our hope is to eventually get to all requests, but we cannot know in advance if we will be able to do so. We are mortals, and we also have bosses that continually ask us to squeeze in “just one more” patient into an already overbooked clinic.

Next Steps

If we select your application for a loan analysis and consultation, we will notify you via email and ask you to send us a copy of your National Student Loan Data file (the button at the bottom). We will also likely have follow-up questions and may also request other corroborating documents, such as a copy of one or more years of previous tax forms, recent paystub, W2s, etc. We will also ask you to estimate your (and spouse’s, if applicable) salary or income for the years between now and your possible forgiveness. You’ll have a short window (perhaps a week) to respond to our follow-up, otherwise we’ll move on to the next application. We will provide as much education and explanation of any suggested changes to your current strategy as is practical and hope to allow for substantial follow-up questions. Be patient, it may take us a while to get back to you. All Doctored Money volunteers have full-time jobs!

Optional Donation

At the conclusion of this process, you’ll have the option to provide a donation to Doctored Money to help us in our mission to enhance physician financial literacy and wellbeing. We hope that you will find the advice we provide useful and help with your finances and stress, and will want to help us continue to help others. Although encouraged, NO DONATION IS REQUIRED, and we will not pester or guilt you. The donation can be ANY amount. For reference, for-profit companies which provide PSLF advice, but do not have educational and charitable missions, charge $500 to $2000 for those with moderate to high debt levels. We pledge to use donated funds only for our direct costs. Should donations one day exceed our direct costs, excess funds will be donated to the John C. Bogle Center for Financial Literacy, a 501c3 non-profit which shares our vision (but with which we have no direct affiliation).

Important Disclaimers

By submitting an application, you agree that you have read and agree to the terms in the paragraph below.

If we select your application for a loan analysis, we are not entering into any business arrangement or agreement with you. We are under no obligation to provide any particular product or level of service. We are not requiring any fee. Our analysis and advice should be considered education, and you need to do your own homework to ensure any advice is applicable and appropriate to your situation before making any changes or failing to make any changes. We are not responsible for any erroneous and incorrect information you may receive from us, as it is your obligation to verify the information we provide you before you act (or don’t act). You authorize us to share your information with one or more Doctored Money volunteers. You will never be placed on any mailing list, and no information will be sold or given to any other organization. We will do our best to protect your information as if it were protected health information, but we will use regular non-encrypted email to communicate with you and for sharing your information among/between Doctored Money staff. Although various Doctored Money volunteers may be professional tax preparers and financial planners, no advice is to be considered tax advice, investment management, or financial planning. Note, we cannot directly help you with any disputes or issues with your loan servicers (although we often give helpful tips), for example, in the case of inaccurate or disputed loan payment counts.
